About Brian Carty, MD, MSPH
The Carty Addiction and Internal Medicine Clinic in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, specializes in substance use disorders and complications of these disorders. Brian Carty, MD, MSPH, has a federal waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (Suboxone and other formulations) for opiate use disorders and can manage other substance abuse and internal medicine problems as well.
The practice is a combination of addiction medicine, psychiatry, and primary care, so Dr. Carty can manage many of your substance use and medical problems, arrange referrals, or work with the primary care physician or psychiatrist you already have.
The primary goal of the Carty Addiction and Internal Medicine Clinic is to provide excellent medical care. In order to do this, the clinic has adopted a fee-for-service model to provide excellent care for you, the patient, and minimize interference in care by third-party government agencies and insurance companies. Increasingly, third-party payment has made doctors employees of insurance companies and the government and has created conflicts of interest between patients and third-party payers.
The clinic asks for payment at the time of service, but can complete an insurance form for your visit which you can then file with your insurance company for reimbursement. Also, if you have insurance or Medicare, your insurance company typically pays for all or part of the cost of lab tests, prescriptions, X-rays, and referrals. Dr. Carty sees patients with and without insurance and will work with all patients to minimize their health care expenses.
Dr. Carty or a carefully chosen covering physician will always be available by phone for after-hours medical problems. This service is not usually available in large group or health system practices. Although you should call 911 or go to the emergency room for a medical emergency, many medical problems that come up after office hours can be managed by phone, so you might be able to avoid an unpleasant emergency room visit.
